oh well. if you make a channel about living in germany and then leave, there should be a video saying we are leaving germany and closing this chapter. bye. there does not need to be any explanation. but giving an ending to this channel would just make sense.

In Germany we have the places to put your shopping cart spread all over the parking place too. Maybe you never have been at a big shopping center here? But you will have to bring the carts back by yourself and get back your coin. The coin can be not only 1 €, in modern places you can use 50 ct, 1 € and in some even 2 € for choice. I still can remember times when this system didn't exist here, but then it was invented and not long after that more and more shopping centres used it to not have to pay pople to do it. And yes, this leads to a reduce of simple unskilled jobs. But since in Germany we have minimum wages it is not sensible to pay people to do things the customer will do by themselves without moaning. Like filling the car at the gas station … 😊

I may try it due to my German ancestry but the great thing about regular asparagus is that it takes a couple minutes to cook and I would imagine the lack of chlorophyl is nutrition wise not good. Thanks. I enjoyed the "specialties" .

Calls to restaurants are tricky because often times the proprietors dont speak fluent German either, so its not like misunderstandings dont happen with native customers at all, either. But having both parties communicate in a 2nd language - thats a whole different ball game

As per the teachers being required to switch to the formal address, it went both ways in my school. Some teachers would switch and address us formally, others would actually offer us the Du, especially tbe "younger" teachers or the teachers we have had for a loooong time throughout the years. That, more so than being addressed formally is like being inducted into the adult-club

Whats so weird with the American mentality is how all the parents are way overprotective, but then also have nostalgia for the time in their life when they were the ones rebelling against their overly strict parents. Its almost like we want them to rebel and drive a wedge in the relationship

I am so glad that your kids are doing so well. With our first move (from Germany to Atlanta), I did not talk for a full year. The subsequent moves (to Italy and a few other countries) fortunately did not take me as long. In the meantime, I know 30 different languages and am happy. My languages multiplied because I am also Deaf and wanted to learn the various signed languages as well. I completed my Abitur in Munich and moved to Minnesota for college and a PhD program.

I love this video because of two things: First, people from abroad mostly only hear "45% of your sallery will be deducted for taxes, healthcare ensurance, unemploiment insurcance, pension insurance". And after this you still pay 7 oder 19% VAT for everything you buy with the remaining income. I can't even tell how many applicants we lost because of this, who then decided to take a job in the US. And also to mention: A dad with a family pays less taxes and his single payment for healthcare ensurance covers the whole family. Second reason why I celebrate the video is, that so many people who complain about taxes and "bad situation" can probably see why it is how it is and that they are complaining at a high level. No well-educated student in Germany has to be in debt like hell after his or her education. Noone will loose everything when having an accident or becoming sick. With regard to all of that, Germany is "the land of the free".

I like your video but the part about Elterngeld isn't completely right (It's quite complicated). If you work part time the Elterngeld get's reduced. For example if you work 60% you will get 65% of the missing 40% income. Also you get Elterngeld only for the first year. If you want to stay home for two years it is possible to get the half of it for two years instead of one. If you stay at home for up to three years your job is protected but you don't get any money. And: as far as I know Elterngeld is payed by the Government and during Mutterschutz you get it from your company. It is still great to have these options but its not like you could work 32 hours and still get 1800€ per month for three years.
